University of Ottawa Placement Test

The Placement Test is used at the University of Ottawa to place students and employees in various courses.

• Immersion Courses
• Personnel Courses
• Language Training Services for Academic Staff

The test evaluates listening and reading comprehension:

Listening
The test-taker will listen to passages and answer multiple-choice questions.  There are 3 short dialogues which are heard only once and 2 longer passages which are heard twice. 

Reading
Involves reading passages from two texts and answering multiple-choice questions and completing a fill-in-the-blanks passage, in which a text is completed by selecting the appropriate word from each drop-down.

Taking the Test
The placement test is accessed through the Official Languages and Bilingualism Institute’s Testing Portal.  In the portal the test-taker will be asked a few questions to direct them to the correct test.
