The Official Languages and Bilingualism Institute (OLBI) is organizing a conference in partnership with the Réseau Latinus, dedicated to the teaching and learning of Romance languages as a second or foreign language, or in minority contexts. This conference will take place in Ottawa October 25 and 26, 2012.

The general theme of the conference arises from reflections and questions raised at the first meeting in Montpellier in 2010, and continued at the Liège conference in 2011. We hope to continue the discussion of the subject of linguistic standards, which will be addressed along two major lines:

  1. Linguistic: Critical analyses of and reflections on the multiplication and development of, registers, and varieties of Romance languages; use of these differing (among both teachers and students); linguistic in an academic context and linguistic insecurity; etc.

  2. The relationship between linguistic and pedagogical practices: Teaching language and the four language skills; in oral or written language and those already acquired; connected to new modes of communication related to technology; academic literacy; etc.
