Julien Couture Resource Centre
To facilitate the learning process, a number of resources are made available to the students and teachers through the Julien Couture Resource Centre. The Centre has been divided into two sections, "Teaching" and "Learning," each organized to serve the needs of two different clienteles.Teaching

The Teaching Section offers a wide range of practical and theoretical materials to teachers of English as a Second Language (ESL) and Français langue seconde (FLS) as well for researchers in the field of second language acquisition, testing and teaching.
The collection has over 5,000 titles in its holdings, which include:
- Field-related journals
- Theoretical volumes
- Course textbooks
- Reference materials, dictionaries, etc.
- Audio-visual aids.
This Section is a lending library. Individuals who have borrowing privileges are:
- OLBI professors and teachers
- Visiting professors
- Graduate and undergraduate students in the Department of Linguistics and the Faculty of Education's second language teaching section.
Material from the collection can be consulted five days a week or signed out for a short period of time.

In existence since 1986, the Learning Section offers learners of ESL and FLS a wide range of materials to assist in the development of their second language.
These students have access to the following:
- Computers
- Video-recorders
- Audio equipment
- Software programs
- Audio-cassettes and CDs
- Textbooks
- Reference materials
- Comic strips
- Magazines
- Video-recordings
- Novels
- Newspapers
The Learning Section clientele is composed of special and regular students and employees of the University of Ottawa.
Consultants
The consultants' role includes interacting with students (i.e. welcoming students, orienting them and assisting them in locating materials appropriate to their level of ability). Consultants also provide individual attention to students, when time permits.
Second Language Monitors
The monitors provide students with practice in oral communication skills. These monitors work with individuals and small groups. They also provide extra help to students who use the Learning Section.
Use of materials
The Learning Section is a reference library only and does not permit the materials to be removed from the premises at any time.
The Learning Section is composed of 4 areas designed for individual work:
- A reading, composition, and reference area
- A listening area, which consists of individual listening stations
- A video room, where students may watch videos individually or in small groups
- A computer room where students have access to multimedia work stations
